AN ORPHAN ELEPHANT BEING SHELTERED BY HIS KEEPER FROM THE SUN WITH AN UMBRELLA. NORMALLY THE ELEPHANTS MOTHER WOULD OFFER THIS PROTECTION. THE SHELDRICK FOUNDATION IS THE WORLDS ONLY ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE, WHERE ELEPHANTS ARE EVENTUALLY RELEASED BACK INTO THE WILD. THERE ARE CURRENTLY EIGHT ORPHANED ELEPHANTS BEING CARED FOR BY THE TRUST AT THE ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE OUTSIDE NAIROBI. THEY HAVE TO CARE FOR THE ORPHANS AROUND THE CLOCK, BOTTLE FEEDING THEM REGULARLY AND THE KEEPERS SLEEPING WITH THEM AT NIGHT. AS THE ELEPHANTS MATURE THEY ARE MOVED TO THE TSAVO NATIONAL PARK WHERE THEY ARE REINTRODUCED INTO THE WILD AND HAVE FORMED A WILD HERD OF RESCUED ORPHANED ELEPHANTS.
