WHEN keen young angler Josh Boyle felt a pull on his rod, he thought he had landed his usual roach or rudd. The 14 year old schoolboy had been fishing since the age of two and regularly fished at a local beauty spot near his home in Stockport, Greater Manchester , UK . But nothing prepared Josh for what he found on the end of his fishing rod - a 3Ib red bellied South American piranha. Despite the shock, he managed to reel in his terrifying catch, and held in in a towel, to protect his fingers from the lethal razor sharp teeth. ( boyle )

When I discovered I was pregnant, my husband Wayne and I were thrilled. The two blue lines were there on the pregnancy stick, larger than life, and I knew that it could only mean one thing. ‘Wayne, wake up, I shouted to him, shaking him under the duvet. ‘You’re going to be a daddy’. It was just what we both needed. Wayne, 28, had been battling with a brain tumour and although an operation to remove it the previous year had proved successful, we knew it was going to come back eventually. We knew it was a race against time if Wayne wanted to be a dad - and I was determined to help him along all I could. ( smith )

There I was, a tiny bundle in a pink dress, hidden in a blackberry bush in the middle of nowhere. It was only by chance on a late afternoon that a family out for a walk discovered my weak cries and managed to find me. I was just nine months old and had just been abandoned - left to die - with my tiny hands trussed up. Nobody knows why I had been abandoned, who had left me there to die, and where I had lived for the first nine months of my life. ( ring )

WHEN Marlie Casseus was discovered in a poverty stricken Haitian village, it was a shocking sight. The 14 year old girl couldn’t breathe or swallow properly and was in danger of losing her sight - thanks to a staggering 16 pound ( 7kg) tumour like mass that was growing on her face. She was flown to Miami, Florida, where surgeons have removed the lifethreatening tumour and have painstakingly reconstructed her face.

I was diagnosed with the syndrome shortly afterwards, and it was a shock for mum. Before I was four, surgeons decided they needed to operate. The bones were causing so much pressure in my brain that if they had left it for much longer, then I would have died. ( worth )

WHEN Tracey Cooke looked at the photograph of her twin girls, she expected to see the usual two pairs of blue eyes looking at her. But instead of four blue eyes, there was only three - and one black one. It was a photograph that was to help save the life of her twin daughter Sophie, as it told her mother that something was seriously wrong. A week later she was examined by eye specialists at Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital and it was revealed that Sophie had cancerous tumours growing behind her eye.

AS I looked at the two blobs swimming around on the screen, the little heartbeats pumping, the fortune teller’s words were ringing in my ears. At the age of 22, he had looked at my palm, turning it over and studying it intently. Then he looked up. ‘I can see twins - and then twins again,’ he said. I laughed at the time - imagine having two sets of twins. But here I was, pregnant again. I already had one set of twins, and he I was staring at the screen seeing another set before my eyes. You’ve passed!’ said the instructor. I couldn’t believe it. I threw open the car door and jumped out in excitement. I couldn’t believe it. But then I felt a twinge of pain across my stomach. Passing my driving test sent me into labour ( michael , birth )

WHEN Victoria Martindale-Wood was born weighing just 14 ounces (400 gram), doctors thought she couldn’t possibly survive. Her mother Tracy gave birth to her at just 24 weeks - and tiny Victoria measured just nine inches. Weighing less than a pound, Victoria is believed to be the third smallest baby ever to be born in the UK. And not only is her survival miraculous because of her tiny size. She has truly beat all the odds after surviving a car crash whilst she was still in the womb and a fall by her mother whilst she was three months pregnant.
