I couldn’t believe it when I saw an email flashing up on my screen. ‘I believe you’re looking for my husband’ it read. I was shaking with excitement. This was it. I’ve lost count of the amount of times that people think I’ve abused Bethan, or think that she’s been in a bad accident. Bethan, now seven, was born with Glomuvenous Malformation, a rare genetic disorder that alters the structure of the veins. It means that her veins don’t behave in the way they should, they bulge and cause blood clots and are very near the surface of her skin, causing it to look like bruising. ( slater )

AS Alison Walker walks across her garden, it was a moment she never thought possible. As she lay trapped underneath a 20 foot wooden fishing boat, hurled on top of her by the massive devastating tsunami wave of Boxing Day 2004, her husband and family feared for her life. She suffered massive injuries, including a shattered pelvis and spine, and the whole right side of her head was ripped open. After managing to get to hospital, doctors said she only had a 50 per cent of survival - and if she did live, she would spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.
A boat landed on me in the Tsunami but I defied the medics and can walk again.
