AS these five brothers and sisters smile happily for the camera on a family trip no one could guess the tragedy that was to hit them. Unbelievably four of the children in this picture are now dead - killed by a undetected heart condition that can cause a loss of consciousness and sudden death. ( griffiths )

My brother Ian and I had always been close - but it was probably the most difficult question of my life. ‘Can I have one of your kidneys,’ I asked him tentatively, as we were sat in the pub one afternoon with my wife Angela, and Ian’s girlfriend Caroline. ( rowe , transplant )
I asked my twin for his kidney.

I have a 50 per cent chance of making it through the next five years. It’s like a death sentence hanging over me and I have to live with it every day. I look at my daughter and wonder if I’ll be around to see her grow up. I’m very careful about her going out in the sun now, and make sure she always wears proper sunscreen and doesn’t get burnt. I would just want people to learn from reading my story, that the sun is a dangerous thing. ( borrett , skin cancer )

Adam and I first fell in love back in primary school - and he was my first special love. I was just eight years old when we met. He was a year older than me. I had been born with Downs Syndrome, but mum and dad were always determined that I would lead a normal life. ( goodey )

I was actually carrying triplets. It took ages for the news to sink in. Neither of us could actually believe it. Amazingly when the scan picture was handed to me, I got such a shock. Clearly I could see one of the triplets giving me a thumbs up from the womb. It was so clear, and just unbelievable. From that moment, I knew it was going to me alright. ( rider , multiple , birth )

I couldn’t believe it when I saw an email flashing up on my screen. ‘I believe you’re looking for my husband’ it read. I was shaking with excitement. This was it. An email from half way across the world - thousands of miles away in Argentina. After 37 years I had finally found my dad. ( perrin , lost , dad , father )
37 years of searching and I found my dad on the other side of the world.

AS Alison Walker walks across her garden, it was a moment she never thought possible. As she lay trapped underneath a 20 foot wooden fishing boat, hurled on top of her by the massive devastating tsunami wave of Boxing Day 2004, her husband and family feared for her life. She suffered massive injuries, including a shattered pelvis and spine, and the whole right side of her head was ripped open. After managing to get to hospital, doctors said she only had a 50 per cent of survival - and if she did live, she would spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.
A boat landed on me in the Tsunami but I defied the medics and can walk again.

As I look at my 12 year old daughter Yvette lying in her hospital bed, my heart feels like it is breaking. Without a lifesaving bone marrow transplant, Yvette may die as she has a rare bone marrow disorder. But I need to find the person out there who can help her. I’ve already asked nearly 300 strangers on the street to have their blood tested to see if they would be a match for her, but even though they all wanted to help, no-one proved to be a suitable match.
