WHEN Robyn Connell started suffering pains after eating fish and chips, she thought it was just indigestion. But just seven hours later she gave birth to a baby boy - without ever knowing she was pregnant. Miss Connell, 22, had even worn a size eight dress just two weeks before on a celebratory night out with her mother Claire. There had been no sign of a baby bump, and she had suffered no common signs of pregnancy, such as morning sickness or food cravings, and she had regular periods.

Once twice three times a Mummy Hannah thought she'd never have kids but fate had something very special in mind. Staring hard into the printed words in the letter, i willed them to say something else, but it was no use. "Tests show you're not ovulating." Nothing could change that sentence or its meaning.

Stroking the dark wisps of hair on my baby William's head, I lifted him up to my chest. 'Come on little one, try to have some', I urged gently as he turned his faced away. It'd been two days now and he'd barely taken any breast milk. 'Why won't he feed?'

As a teenager I always hated it when my painful periods arrived.  'Can't you just take it all away?' I said to my GP, aged 14. 'Don't say that' he'd say, 'some women struggle to have children.' That got me thinking... Each month my eggs were wasted, whilst some women were desperate for babies. It seemed a shame.

AS these three friends play together, no one would ever guess there was anything wrong with them. But behind their smiles hides a tragic secret - as time is ticking away for all of them, unlike their other friends who have their whole lives ahead of them. Unbelievably all three have a rare degenerative disease, with the same symptoms as dementia. The disease has already started to progress with all three of them.

THESE are the miracle twins - who survived months of chemotherapy whilst in their mother’s womb. Sarah Pierce, 40, was 16 weeks pregnant with much longed-for twins when doctors discovered she had breast cancer. The only chance of saving her life was to undergo aggressive chemotherapy treatment - and she was terrified that her unborn twins wouldn’t survive. But they have survived against all the odds and were born healthy.

WHEN 30 year old Becci McCafferty was diagnosed with terminal cancer her only thought was for her six children. Mrs McCafferty has been told by doctors there is nothing that can be done to cure her of the cancerous tumours which have spread from her appendix into her stomach lining. She was told she had cancer when she was just 26 weeks pregnant with daughter Aurora, now eight months - after doctors removed her appendix and found a tumour there. But it wasn’t until Aurora was eight weeks old that she was given the devastating news that the cancer was terminal. Miss McCafferty said: ‘I felt every emotion possible when I was told the news. All I could think about was my children.

AS my little boy Ollie brandishes his wooden spoon and beats his cake mixture, I can only smile in relief. Most mums would love to see their children baking, but I love it more than most. Because it shows how far Ollie has come. When he had a stroke as I was giving birth to him, doctors didn’t know whether he would even walk or talk. So to see him happily stirring his cake mixture is such a relief to me. To watch Ollie doing normal things that every child enjoys is extra special to me. I had enjoyed a smooth pregnancy. My husband James and I were thrilled when I fell pregnant. We already had a daughter Mia, now five, and we were looking forward to giving her a brother or sister to play with.

THIS is the designer family - ‘designed’ by doctors to be free of a killer disease. Karen Mulchinock was so worried about passing on the family gene of Huntington’s disease to her unborn babies that she went to fertility doctors for help. Her father has died of the disease, and she herself has the defective gene and will develop it in the future. But thanks to the ‘designer’ technique where scientists select only embryos without the defective gene to put back into the womb, sisters Rose and Daisy have been born free from the disease. It is believed to be the only case of its kind in the UK.

WHEN Chloe Adlerstein jumped off a 40ft waterfall whilst on holiday and broke her back, she thought she would never walk again. But after an operation to rebuild her spine using two metal rods and eight metal bolts, Miss Alderstein has not only learnt to walk again, but has started working as a catwalk model. Miss Adlerstein, 21, said: ‘When I broke my back it was devastating - I didn’t know if I would ever be able to walk again. ‘But it made me even more determined to success. I’ve always dreamt of being a model, so now to finally be living my dream after everything that has happened is unbelievable.
