WHEN Becky Hyland went into labour, her best friend Laura Fenwick was not to be outdone. The women, who had been best friends since the age of three, had shared everything together - even breaking the news of their pregnancies within minutes of each other. Even though Mrs Fenwick was due to give birth three days later than Mrs Hyland - she went into labour shortly after her best friend. It meant that both their babies were born on the same day - within a few hours of each other.

I looked down at my bump. The skin was stretched so tightly across it looked like I was going to burst. ‘I’m sure I’m going to pop,’ I moaned to my husband James, 26, a police officer. I’d never seen a bump as big as mine on any pregnant woman before. There seemed as though there would be no room left for my babies, but week by week my bump still kept growing. ‘They are still growing healthily,’ smiled the midwife to me as I went for my scan. I looked at James. ‘How can they possibly grow anymore,’ I said in despair to him. My bump was so big that I couldn’t turn round in case I bashed someone with it and knocked them over.

THIS is the miracle baby designed by doctors to be free of the killer disease Cystic Fibrosis. Little Ryan Sowerby was born free of the disease which his father has - thanks to the pioneering technique. The couple tried for eight years without success to have a baby - and it was only then that tests were carried out which showed that Mr Sowerby had the killer condition.

I was tense, waiting on the end of the telephone for the doctors answer.  My son Jack, eight, had just been diagnosed with cancer the previous day. Would I be facing the same battle. When we had both been facing it together, waiting for our results, it was the only time in my life that I wished I did have cancer. I was willing it to be me that faced that battle, anything if it meant that Jack didn’t have to battle it.

WHEN Nicole Chick was born with a birthmark the size of a tennis ball on her leg her mother was terrified she would never live a normal life. Doctors said they had never seen anything like it when she first arrived into the world, but said they would try and treat it. For five years Nicole has never been able to run and jump in the air like her friends, but after intensive treatment she has finally been able to run, jump and hop for the first time. It is something that her delighted mother never thought she would ever see.

There was nothing better I liked to do than to belt out my favourite songs. I was never happier than when I was standing with a microphone in hand, crooning the likes of Simply the Best and When a Man loves A Woman. I’d always been into karoke, even since my mum Karen had bought me a karoke machine for my tenth birthday. Then it was Friday nights down at the pub with my mates, belting out numbers.

THIS is the little girl whose life was saved - after a visit to the optician. Evie Trivett had been sent home by doctors three times with the diagnosis of conjunctivitis - yet it turned out to be deadly EYE CANCER. It was only when her concerned mum Becky, 37, took her for a second opinion at Vision Express that the optician spotted something behind her right eye. She was referred straight to hospital where tests showed she was suffering from retinoblastoma - a rare form of eye cancer. Luckily the cancer was caught in time and after treatment, Evie has now made a full recovery.

THIS is the little girl who was FROZEN by doctors to survive. Tiny Lily Cracknell had stopped breathing for 30 minutes after her birth so doctors wrapped her in a special cool bag which plummeted her body temperature. She was kept at the freezing temperatures for 72 hours, to try and stop her brain swelling up and causing brain damage or even death.

THESE three sisters are all four years old - but amazingly they AREN’T triplets. Their mother Tessa Singh gave birth to girls Cara and then to twins Laura and Jenna, in the short space of just NINE months. She fell pregnant just 12 weeks after giving birth to Cara, and the twins arrived unexpectedly into the world at just 28 weeks. It means for three months of each year, the three sisters are all the same age.
