THIS is the brave little girl who has taken her first steps after losing both her legs to meningitis before she could even walk. Little two year old Alissa Taylor has astounded her parents with her bravery by taking her first steps on her prosthetic legs. She wasn’t expected to survive the killer brain bug, but she amazed doctors when she managed to pull through. She touched the doctors hearts so much by her plight that they even managed to make her a pair of tiny wooden feet to put on the end of her new legs. Her father Manuel, 25, a menswear sales manager, said: ‘Alissa is a real little fighter and we are so proud of her. ‘She touched the hearts of everyone she met in hospital. She has just started taking her first steps and she is being so brave about it. ‘She hadn’t started to walk before getting meningitis so she doesn’t know what it is like to walk on her own legs. Walking on prosthetic limbs is the only thing she will ever know.’

WHEN doctors reassured Jennifer Foreman that her unborn baby wouldn’t weigh more than 8Ibs she trusted their judgement. Despite her putting on a staggering five stone during her pregnancy, she was told that the baby weighed an average size. When she went into labour she heard a cracking sound in her back and told doctors she feared the baby was too big to deliver. But she carried on delivering the baby naturally - and after a six hour labour she has given birth to one of Britain’s biggest ever babies.

WHEN Pamela Sutherland fell pregnant with twins, she was worried that people wouldn’t be able to tell them apart. But as soon as they were born, she and husband Barry knew that it wasn’t going to be a problem. Because at 8Ib1, twin Daisy dwarfed her sister Poppy, who weighed in at just 5Ib7, when they were born at Elgin Maternity Hospital five weeks ago.

THIS is the remarkable recovery of the human ‘Tortoise’ boy. Brave Ethan Henderson spent months in a full body plaster cast after a major operation to straighten his spine which if left untreated, would have paralysed him. The hard plaster cast shell cast has now helped little Ethan’s spine after it had started to curve at a dangerous 42 degrees. The operation risked paralysing him, but his mother Angela Henderson knew there was no option but to have the eight hour surgery to fit metal rods and pins to straighten his spine. After spending three months in the plaster cast shell, Ethan, three, can now stand tall and run around like any normal little boy.

I will never forget that terrible phone call, early that June morning. It was my dad. ‘it’s your mum,’ he said down the phone. He could barely speak. But he told me that mum had been found dead. Lying in her neighbour’s pond. My whole world suddenly caved in around me. How could it have possibly happened. My mother Judi, 61, was so full of life. So energetic, and she loved us all so much.

I turned around and saw a lady sitting at the table face down in her dinner. Her husband jumped up shouting for help. The lady had been sat behind me eating her meal when she’d suddenly collapsed. The whole restaurant then suddenly erupted with everyone shouting and panicking. I’m a trained first aider so I ran over to her. I shouted for my sister Becky to ring for an ambulance and then I told one of my friends to move the table and get her onto the floor. I knew she needed to be in the recovery position.
