THIS is the mum who has beaten the odds to come back from holiday in Turkey TWICE with a set of twins. Amazingly Heddwyn Gunes discovered she was pregnant after each holiday - six years apart - and then discovered she was pregnant with twins each time. She gave birth to her first twins Melis and Esra in May 2004, and then in May this year gave birth to her second set of twins Bedir and Selen. Mrs Gunes said: ‘My family joke and call me the Double Yolker as I’ve had a set of twins each time I’ve fallen pregnant. ‘Its happened each time I’ve been on holiday to Turkey - there must be something in the water over there.’

THIS is the mum who has astounded the medics after giving birth to her second set of twins - despite having been through the menopause. Clare Tellwright thought she would have to forget her dreams of adding to her family when she went through a premature menopause aged just 21. She had already given birth to one set of twins and doctors told her that it was unlikely she would be able to have any more children. She had been put into a premature menopause to try and treat the painful condition endometriosis and doctors feared it would end her ability to conceive. But she amazed the doctors when three years later she fell pregnant naturally - and discovered she was carrying yet another set of twins.

THIS mum and daughter have made medical history - by becoming the first mum and daughter surrogates in the UK. When Becky Shields saw her selfless mum Jacqui give birth to FIVE babies for different childless couples, she was inspired to follow in her footsteps. So last year, even though she had never had a baby of her own, Becky, 21, decided to help a childless couple. She fell pregnant last April after artificial insemination and in December gave birth to the couple’s daughter. The remarkable birth has meant that the mum and daughter became Britain’s first ever mum and daughter surrogate team. Becky, who lives in Winsford, Cheshire, said: ‘I’m incredibly proud to have followed in my mum’s footsteps. Even though I hadn’t had a baby of my own I wanted to help someone else, just like she did.’

THE job of a potential bridesmaid is usually a serious one - but Katrina Huggins took it more seriously than most. When her sister Melissa was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour she cancelled her own wedding day in order to help pay for her sister’s pioneering treatment. The £250,000 treatment in the USA was Melissa’s only hope of survival - after doctors in the UK gave up hope. The family started fundraising and devoted sister Katrina cancelled her own wedding day to put the funds instead towards her sister's treatment. And her devotion has paid off. Recent scans have shown that the tumours have significantly shrunk. And her amazing survival against the odds has meant Melissa was able to tie the knot with fiancé James Pegram last month - and Katrina is also now set to walk down the aisle in a few weeks time.

THESE are the three sisters who are all living with a ticking timebomb. Chloe, Courtney and Melissa McAllister have all tragically been diagnosed with the same rare heart condition that killed their mother Sharon. It means that any of the three sisters could drop down dead at any day from the condition they inherited from their mother for which there is no cure. But their dad Stephen says the girls just take each day as it comes and it hasn’t stopped them from enjoying their lives to the full. Mr McAllister, 43, said: ‘It is a killer disease and we know that it could strike at any moment, but I am so proud of all three of my daughters. ‘They don’t let it get them down and they always have a smile for everyone.’

WHEN Stacey Smart fell pregnant she thought she would have a small baby due to her petite size eight frame. But as her pregnancy progressed her bump grew so big she put on a massive seven stone. Her unborn baby grew so quickly that in order for doctors to carry out the necessary scans she had to roll onto her side in order to give the baby more room to move. WHEN Alistair Sutcliffe suffered a brain haemorrhage, the doctors thought it was going to be fatal. But amazingly Dr Sutcliffe survived - only because of climbing the world’s highest mountains. Because he had regularly climbed mountains since he was a teenager, it meant that blood vessels in his brain which would normally become defunct after birth were kept working. When he suffered the brain haemorrhage, the blood was able to re-route round his brain, using this second set of blood vessels, which kept him alive. Mr Sutcliffe, 45, who works as a GP in Whitby, North Yorkshire, said: ‘I knew that a brain haemorrhage could be fatal, and the doctors didn’t think I was going to make it. ‘But at the hospital they discovered this second circulation system in my brain, and that's what kept me alive.

THERE comes a time in every school holiday when an exhausted mother has to take a break from boisterous offspring. That moment came for this lioness after letting her newborn cubs take a feed of milk from her. She had already done the day’s hunting and came back to feed her hungry cubs with her milk. But after letting them feed for a while the exhausted mother decided she needed some time out, and rolled over so they couldn’t reach the milk. It left the cubs in no doubt about her feelings after they were left staring at her turned back. But whilst one of the them got the message and retired to a nearby bush to chew on some leaves in frustration instead, it didn’t deter the other who nimbly jumped onto his mother’s back to try and reach the milk from the other side.
