For most women childbirth is a shock to their body, but for Nicola Howe it was a bigger shock than most. Her body was so traumatised by giving birth to her daughter Jade, that within seven days of giving birth her hair had completely turned white. Before Jade, now ten, was born, Mrs Howeís hair was dark brown with not one strand of grey visible. But as she recovered in hospital from her daughterís traumatic birth, it started to turn white literally overnight. By the time her daughter was seven days old, her hair had completely turned white all over.

WHEN Lisa McKay ballooned to almost 20 stone after getting addicted to the fizzy coke drink she knew she had to take drastic action. She was consuming a staggering twenty cans of coke each day - on top of takeaways and snacks - and at the age of 24 she weighed a massive 19 stone 4. She had to travel using two aeroplane seats and she couldnít walk more than a few yards without feeling breathless. She was so addicted to the fizzy drinks - which are laden with sugar - that she even woke up at 4am to drink a can. So in August last year she underwent a gastric band operation and has now managed to lose nearly ten stone. And since the operation she has not drunk a single can of coke - despite getting severe withdrawal symptoms due to giving it up.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I lowered her tiny coffin into the ground. It just seemed so unfair. My tiny daughter was joining her twin brothers Cameron and Carter. They too hadnít survived long enough to even been born. iíd lost nine babies now - and I was only 25. Each time my body was killing them and I didnít know how to stop it. iíd managed to hold on to one daughter long enough for her to be born safely - and now I didnít want to let my precious daughter Ruby out of my sight. She was on the one precious flower who had survived long enough to bloom.

The long hours of labour had been worth it, as our daughter Emma arrived into the world. My wife Sarah, 39, and I had been thrilled when she fell pregnant and I couldnít wait to meet our daughter. But when she was handed to us, something didn't look quite right. Emmaís skin was scaly and bright red. She didnít look like a normal healthy pink baby at all. The doctors quickly took over. They whisked Emma away, leaving Sarah and I bewildered. What was wrong with our daughter? Then the doctors told us some devastating news. Emma had an incredibly rare skin condition. Her tiny body was covered in hard scaly skin, with a band of tight skin around her chest so tight that she could hardly breathe.
