The first thing that Emilie Riddell wanted to do with her new hand was to ride her new pink scooter and go kart. The brave eight year old - who was born with her left hand missing - has been given the new 3D hand through the pioneering 3D printer technology. She has now been using her new hand to get around on her scooter and her pink go kart - as now she can operate the controls easily. Full time mum Jade Anslow, 29, said the hand has revolutionised her daughters life.

WHEN Toni Skinley weighed a massive 23 stone she was told she was too fat for a life saving transplant. Miss Skinley, 28, desperately needed a new kidney to survive after she was diagnosed with renal failure at the age of 21. But she wasn’t allowed to have a transplant unless she lost some weight - so she has shed a massive 13 stone. After trimming down to a svelte ten stone, she has been able to have a life saving kidney, donated by her father. Now she has regained her health and can now finally live a normal life.

They say twins have an unbreakable intuitive bond - but Stefan and Gareth Kershaw have a bond that stretches to the other side of the world. When Gareth’s wife Kate went into labour they never imagined that just hours later, Stefan’s wife Katie would also go into labour too. But amazingly the twins have smashed odds of 150,000 to one by both welcoming their babies on the same day - despite being ten thousand miles APART. After three years of unsuccessfully trying for a family, Clair McGlynn and her fiance Sam discovered that the problem was his: he produced no sperm. In around one in five cases of infertility, it is the man who is responsible. ‘The doctor explained that if Sam’s sperm count had been low there were things that could be done to help us conceive, but with no sperm at all, we would never be able to have children,’ recalls Clair. ‘We were both stunned.

WHEN her tiny baby cousin lay dying needing a liver transplant, brave Fern Jackson didn’t hesitate to step forward. Tiny Tiffany Lothian was yellow and listless lying in a coma in her hospital bed - facing a desperate race against time to get a new liver. Her brave decision has meant 20-year old Fern has become one of the UK’s youngest ever living donors - after she donated part of her own liver to give her cousin Tiffany the best Christmas present she could ever have asked for. The lifesaving transplant took place last month, where doctors took a portion of Fern’s liver and transplanted it into eight month old Tiffany’s body.

WHEN Clare Beams lay desperately ill, her fiance Paul Jones gave her the best Christmas present she could have asked for. He has donated part of his own liver to save Miss Beams’ life - after she was born with a lifethreatening liver condition. After the operation, which was declared a success, Miss Beams can live a normal life and the couple are looking forward to a healthy Christmas. Miss Beams said: ‘It really is the best Christmas present that Paul could ever have given me. I was desperate for a transplant. It was the only way I was going to survive. ‘When he stepped up and offered to donate part of his own liver to save me, I was overwhelmed. It was such an amazing gift from him. He has given me a second chance at life.’ Miss Beams, who lives in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, was diagnosed with the condition Biliary Atresia at the age of nine weeks.
