THIS is the youngest baby in the world to survive an operation to SUPERGLUE his brain to save his life. Tiny fighter Alfie Dale underwent the delicate operation to superglue an artery in his brain to prevent a fatal blood rush which would have stopped his tiny heart. He suffered from a rare condition called Vein of Galen malformation, where the blood flow in one of his main arteries became too strong, leading to lifethreatening swelling on his brain. The condition is so rare that only 20 children each year develop it in Britain - and luckily Alfie’s identical twin Charlie was born free of the condition.

THESE are the triplets who have beaten odds of three million to one - to be born on their father’s birthday. The trio were expected to arrive this month, but actually arrived in February - on the same day as their father Mark Loftus celebrated his 30th birthday. Now with four people in the same family celebrating their birthday on the same day - mother Su, 36, isn’t expecting to get a look in. Mr Loftus, an electrician, who lives in Swanley, Kent, said: ‘Its going to be hectic in the future with the triplets and I all celebrating our birthdays on the same day. ‘Su will have her work cut out organising birthday presents for us all - and even though I think I’ll have to take a back seat, it will be a good excuse for me to hire a bouncy castle and have some fun.’

THREE women have joined forces to create a baby in the first known case of its kind in the UK. Claire Horner has battled through breast cancer three times and doctors warned her not to fall pregnant again as there was a risk of the cancer returning. She was desperate for a brother or sister for her four year old son Jack, so she turned to friends Cheryl Richardson and Cathy Sidaway for help. In the remarkable case, Miss Sidaway has donated the egg, Mr Horner has donated the sperm, and Mrs RIchardson has agreed to act as a surrogate to carry the baby. Mrs Richardson is now more than 12 weeks pregnant - in a case which fertility experts believe is the first of its kind in the UK. Mark Sedler, from Care Fertility, the fertility clinic which is treating the case, said: ‘This case is the first of its kind that we have treated, and we are not aware of any similar case elsewhere.
