WHEN Wendy Bainbridge married her husband John they decided to try for a family straight away. But after 20 years of failed fertility and IVF treatment Mrs Bainbridge thought she would never be a mum. One treatment even resulted in Mrs Bainbridge falling pregnant with quins, but she lost all five babies. So after 20 years of heartbreak, the couple decided to go for one last attempt at fertility treatment with their one last frozen remaining embryo. But when she was lying on the scanning table at the fertility clinic before the embryo had been implanted, doctors made an amazing discovery. Mrs Bainbridge had actually fallen pregnant naturally - after more than two decades of failed fertility treatment.

THESE are the amazing siblings - who have been born using sperm frozen for a staggering THIRTEEN and FIFTEEN years. When Alison Morris’s husband Ian was struck down with leukaemia doctors told him the treatment would leave him infertile. So the couple decided to have his sperm frozen to give them a chance of having a family in the future. They had their first try in 1999, but it failed, and so did their next two attempts and Mrs Morris thought she would never be a mother. But in Feburary 2007, they had a fourth try - with Mr Morris’s sperm which by then had been frozen for an amazing thirteen years. They didn’t hold out much hope of it working, but unbelievably Mrs Morris fell pregnant and their daughter Mariella was born in October 2007. Then the couple tried for a second time - this time after the sperm had been frozen for fifteen years - and their son Herbie was born in November.

THIS is the youngest baby in the world to survive an operation to SUPERGLUE his brain to save his life. Tiny fighter Alfie Dale underwent the delicate operation to superglue an artery in his brain to prevent a fatal blood rush which would have stopped his tiny heart. He suffered from a rare condition called Vein of Galen malformation, where the blood flow in one of his main arteries became too strong, leading to lifethreatening swelling on his brain. The condition is so rare that only 20 children each year develop it in Britain - and luckily Alfie’s identical twin Charlie was born free of the condition.
