THIS is the mother who has made the controversial decision AGAINST having a designer baby to save her child from having a potentially fatal condition. Nicky Masonís two sons have already been born with cystic fibrosis which means they face a lifetime of treatment and possibly will need a lung transplant to survive. The condition affects the internal organs and each week three youngsters die from it. Mrs Mason and her husband Steven were desperate to have a third baby, but were worried that their third child would also inherit the condition from both their faulty genes. So they went to see doctors and discuss the possibility of having a designer baby - where embryos are screened before being put back into the womb and only embryos free from the disease are put back.
