But this mince pie has clocked up a staggering 1.5 million air miles over the last 16 years. ‘Mincie’ as he has been affectionally christened by owner Robert Smith has visited a staggering 36 countires around the world to make up the amazing tally. Mr Smith said: ‘I doubt there is a single mince pie in the country who has travelled any where near as many miles as Mincie. ‘He has been to 36 different countries, including Saudi Arabia and Brazil. He has visited landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Alacatraz island in San Francisco and the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.’

WHEN Clair Beswick decided to have her second baby born at home, there was no need to panic. She’d already give birth to her first son Oliver in hospital, who weighed 9Ib5, and everything had gone to plan. But no-one had counted on the mammoth arrival of baby Rowan - who at a staggering 12Ib12 weighed in as the UK’s heaviest ever home birth. Mrs Beswick, who is married to husband Kevin, 37, said: ‘We just couldn’t believe it when Rowan was weighed afterwards - the midwife could barely speak she was so shocked. ‘They told us there and then that he was the heaviest baby that had ever been born at home in the UK. ‘We had midwives from the hospital visiting our home the following day just to see him. The news of his size had spread around the hospital and they wanted to come and see for themselves.’

WHEN Lisa Wilson was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she only had one thought and that was how her girls were going to grow up. So she put aside her own pain and drew up a series of heartbreaking lists for her husband Simon with her detailed instructions on how to bring their daughters up. Now Mr Wilson has been left with the love-filled ‘mummy manual’ to bring up daughters Ella, five, and Amelia, three. The twelve pages of carefully crafted notes are Mrs Wilson’s last legacy to the daughters she had to leave behind when she died of cancer last April. Mr Wilson, 37, a secondary school IT support worker, said: ‘Lisa was Wonder Woman when it came to bringing up our daughters. ‘When she was diagnosed, we talked a lot about how we wanted the girls to be brought up and she decided she would make a series of lists for me to make sure that I did everything right.

WHEN chemotherapy and a new pioneering drug treatment failed to cure Reece Puddington from cancer, doctors didn’t know where to turn next. They had tried nearly three months of intensive chemotherapy and two courses of a pioneering drug from the USA to cure him from neuroblastoma, a rare aggressive childhood cancer. But they hadn’t counted on good old fashioned laughter as the best medicine possible for six year old Reece. After all the previous treatments had failed Reece started to watch the popular comedy show Little Britain with his mother Kay. And after several weeks of watching the show and ‘crying with laughter’, doctors tried one last course of drug treatment - and amazingly it worked. His cancer is now in remission

She managed to pull through, but doctors eventually had to amputate both her legs and part of her hand to save her life.
