S Edward Bright bravely takes his first steps on his new legs, it is something his parents never thought they would see. Seven year old Edward lost his arms and legs to the deadly brain bug meninigitis in February this year. It nearly cost him his life as he lay in a coma on a life support machine for two weeks whilst doctors battled to save him. They had to make the heartbreaking decision to amputate both his arms and legs in a desperate bid to save his life. But now Edward has been fitted with prosthetic legs which allows him to keep up with his twin brother William. His mum Clare, 38, a medical secretary, said: ‘It is so fantastic to see Edward running along with William now.

Mrs Whitman and husband Martin endured 15 years of heartbreak as she fell pregnant again and again, and each time they hoped that they would become parents. But despite extensive drug treatments, Mrs Whitman kept miscarrying her babies one by one. THESE are the three little miracles who cheated death a staggering NINE times. Triplets Isabel, Emily and Ben were born so premature that they weighed only 2Ib each and doctors didn’t think they would survive. As they battled for life in intensive care, each triplet was brought back to life by doctors an amazing three times each, after they stopped breathing and were just seconds from death. Their survival has amazed the doctors and their parents Andy and Anna Collier, who never imagined that they would all pull through. Mrs Collier said: ‘When they were born they were just so tiny - they looked so helpless lying there. They could have each fitted into the palm of our hands. ‘When they stopped breathing and had to be rescuciated each time, we thought we had lost them.

THEY say the bond between twins is strong - but the bond between Gabriel and Ieuan Jones simply couldnt be broken. When doctors discovered that twin Gabriel had an enlarged heart and was going to die in the womb, his mother Rebecca Jones had to make a heartbreaking decision. After doctors told her that his death could cause his twin brother to die too before they were born, and that it would be better to end Gabriels suffering sooner rather than later, Mrs Jones decided to let doctors go ahead with an operation that would terminate Gabriels life. So firstly they operated to try and sever Gabriels umbilical cord to cut off his blood supply, but when that didnt work they they cut Mrs Jones placenta in half so that when Gabriel died, it wouldnt affect his twin brother. The video can be purchased and downloaded for a one-off broadcast use by simply entering your existing passwords and downloading the required video content. THIS is the amazing little girl who had her brain frozen by doctors in order to stop her having brain damage after a traumatic birth. Tiny Olivia Templar was starved of oxygen for ten minutes after her birth which could have caused her to suffer brain damage or cerebral palsy. But in a pioneering procedure - the first of its kind in the UK - Olivia was fitted with a special helmet attached to a cooling machine, and her brain was frozen for three days to stop brain damage occurring. The special cooling machine had been brought to St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol from the USA and Olivia was the first patient to be treated. Now tests have shown she is clear from brain damage, much to the relief of her parents.

A FATHER whose life was saved by his workmates after they paid for a scan which revealed he had a lifethreatening brain tumour has been given the all clear by doctors. It was a huge relief for Gary Harris who had waited 15 months after his initial operation to find out whether his brain tumour had grown back. Mr Harris was saved in May last year after his colleagues stumped up £700 for the brain scan which revealed a deadly tumour, that would have killed him within a fortnight. He would have died waiting for the scan on the NHS, even though he had been in excruiating pain and and had suffered constant headaches due to the tumour. But now he has had a scan at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, and doctors have finally given him the all clear.

WHEN Phyllis Yates lost her voice more than 13 years ago she despaired of ever being able to say hello to her beloved granddaughters. Ever since Donna, 13, and Leanne, 11, were born, Mrs Yates has never been able to hold a conversation with them. She would play games with them as toddlers and give them cuddles, but has never been able to say ‘I love you’. Doctors were baffled about how she lost her voice. She went to bed on night in 1993, then woke up the next morning unable to speak. She has spent more than a decade undergoing numerous tests, but doctors have never been able to find any answers. In November last year, she was finally referred to a specialist at Gravesend Hospital in London for a private consultantant and he diagnosed laryngeal dystonia - where the muscles of the voice box go into spasm.

As my daughter Maria started to take her first steps down the aisle, I had tears in my eyes watching her. Dressed in a beautiful cream dress she made a beautiful bridesmaid - walking down the aisle infront of the bride. But Maria was no ordinary bridesmaid. It was a moment my husband Michael and I never thought we would ever see. Maria was born with meninigitis, which even though she bravely held on and managed to survive, it left her with cerebral palsy. For three years Maria had not been able to speak or walk. But when my brother’s fiance asked Maria to be a bridesmaid - I knew I had to help her walk down the aisle come what may. ( michael )

I was so big I hardly drag my 42 stone bulk off the sofa, but I needed to go to the doctors. So slowly I shuffled down the hallway to the front door, when my knees gave way and I fell to the floor. ‘Are you alright mum,’ my son Simon said, rushing over to help. He grabbed my hands to help me up, but I couldn’t move. I was stuck on the floor. I was too enormous to get up. My husband Vincent and two friends came to help too. But even between the four of them, they still couldn’t shift me. I was stuck fast. ( beere )
