WHEN Meg Jones was battling a rare form of cancer, it was her mum Helen Bulbeck who helped her stay strong and win her battle. It was a mammoth task for Mrs Bulbeck after doctors in the UK told her they couldn’t operate on her daughter’s brain tumour, to find a surgeon who would perform pioneering surgery to save her daughter’s life. So when Helen herself was diagnosed with a rare cancer too at the same time, Meg was on hand to help her through it too. Now Meg has flown to America for pioneering surgery to remove her brain tumour, and doctors have managed to remove Helen’s tumour too. Now both mum and daughter are recovering back at their home in Hampshire - and say their support for each other has helped them win their double cancer battle. ( jones )

WHEN doctors told Mark Chenoweth he would never walk again, he resigned himself to spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Mark, 45, had been born with spina bifida, and by the age of 34 he was unable to walk because of nerve damage to his spine. But whilst on holiday to Menorca in October 1998, a miracle happened of biblical proportions. He had persuaded a local dive centre to teach him to dive - despite not having the use of his legs. When he surfaced after diving to 17 metres below the surface and was pulled back into the boat by the instructor, he could walk. The video can be purchased and downloaded for a one-off broadcast use by simply entering your existing passwords and downloading the required video content. Video content can also be supplied on DVD if required. Fixed price of £300 ($600/€450)

Crop circles and evidence of mysterious alien abductions may seem like a modern day phenomenom. But cave paintings found in what could be the oldest ‘art gallery’ in the world have shown that even our ancestors upto 20,000 years ago believed in life from another planet. I lit my daughter Josie’s favourite aromotherapy candle, and bustled around the living room clearing up. We’d just had a cosy night in together, with Josie’s boyfriend Lawrence, and my other son Michael, 21. It was December 2004, and we’d just had a quiet night, watching television, but it was 9.30am and Josie and Lawrence were having a lie in. Josie loved aromotherapy. Every morning I would light one of her candles, and the aroma would drift around the living room. She would light aromotherapy candles around her bath when she was having a soak in the bath and when she was in her bedroom. I needed to get some bread and milk, so I decided to nip down to our corner shop. I went out the front door quietly so not to wake everyone up and went outside. Ten minutes later, I turned the corner and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. There was smoke pouring out of our building, and there were fire engines outside. ‘You can’t go inside,’ said one of the fireman. ( phillips )

It seemed so surreal. Just a few hours ago I’d been rushed into the operating theatre as my baby twin boys were on their way. But unbelievably only one had come out. I had one baby lying in an incubator having arrived safely into the world - and yet I was lying here still pregnant with the other baby. The doctors didn’t know what to say. As the days went by, still I could feel my baby moving around my womb. Carter, his twinbrother, was slowly gaining weight day by day. Yet Logan wasn’t coming out. He was staying put. The doctors had managed to stop labour for a few hours - or even a day or too. But this was ridulous. Two weeks had gone past - yet still Logan hadn’t come out to meet his big brother. ( anderson )

The doctor delivered his devastating verdict. ‘I’m afraid your daughter has liver disease too.’ I couldn’t believe it. My son Matthew had also been born with a fatal liver condition, and he had just had a transplant. But as I looked down at Rebecca, lying there so tiny, could I really be as lucky again. It didn’t seem possible that she could have a successful transplant too. We’d been told that the chances of having another baby born with the same condition would be billions to one, so my husband Michael, 47, a production planner, and I had decided that we wanted a brother or sister for Matthew. But we had no idea how it would turn out - that tiny Rebecca would be born with the same fatal condition as her brother, and face the same race against time to get a transplant too. ( dodd )

But each time it has come back, I’ve been determined to fight through, fo rmy daughter’s sake. She needs a mum, and I’m determined not to give up on her. ( simpson)
